Summary

Search Ads will have a new ad display option* "Image asset." The images you add will appear in Search Ads using image assets. You can visually appeal by bringing together images with existing text information, such as titles and descriptions.
We will update you with more details later on.

Adding image assets (updated on March 13, 2024)

An image asset is one of the ad display assets, and the basic steps for adding it are the same as for any other ad display asset. Create image assets in your account and associate them with campaigns or ad groups for ad delivery. Image assets cannot be associated with app promotion campaigns.

Available image size

The following images are not allowed for image assets.

  • Aspect ratio 1:1 with pixel size 300x300 or larger
  • Aspect ratio 1.91:1 with pixel size 600x314 or larger

Reviews

The following images are not allowed for image assets.

  • Images that don't meet our Advertisement Editorial Guidelines
  • Images with outer borders
    *Images with partial frame lines are not allowed.
  • Images containing text
    *Text printed on the product is permitted.
    Example: Product names printed on a product package are permitted. Text such as "Must Buy!" that isn't printed on the package isn't permitted.

Appearance of image assets (updated on March 13, 2024)

  • Image assets will show regardless of position. Image assets may appear on ads that rank lower and not appear on ads that rank higher.
  • If you associate an image asset to both the campaign and ad group, the image asset associated to the ad group will appear.
  • When an image asset with aspect ratio of 1:1 is not associated, it is less likely to be delivered. To deliver ads using image assets, be sure to associate images with a 1:1 aspect ratio. 

Notes

  • When your image asset appears, we may round up the image or add a border.
  • A click on the image asset will be a link to the final URL of the ad. You can't specify individual URLs for image assets.
  • You can add up to 1,000 image assets per account. You can't modify or remove image assets.
